About

BACKGROUND: EUNICE FENTENG HEALTH FUND (EFHF)
Eunice Fenteng Health Fund (EFHF) was founded in 2015 by Eunice Fenteng in Stockholm,
Sweden. It is a charity organisation that works to support hospitals, healthcare centre,s, an
orphanage, as well as individuals mainly in Ghana. It was formerly known as Ghana Sweden
Health fund but a change in name was necessary due to media mistaking the fund for a
governmental charity, rather than the non-governmental charity organisation that it is. Our
core charity focus for now includes:
a) Donating hospital equipment, and medical items to hospitals and clinics.
b) Education in self-care management for people with diabetes.
c) Foot examination and training for nurses.
d) Public health screening
d) Support to orphanages and
e) Distribution of clothing and assorted items to families and children in deprived
communities.
The initial interest and inspiration of the founder to know more about diabetes was as a result
of her mother’s diagnosis with diabetes in her late forties. Eunice started by sending her
mother a glucometer among other items to help in managing her diabetes, however, she sadly
passed away in 2004. Her mother’s death was a big blow but also served as a strong call to
serve her memory, by helping others with the disease.
By 2010, she had started an individual-effort program to support and carry out training for
nurses, provide self-care education to diabetes patients and distribute items to people within
some communities, whilst on vacation in Ghana. In 2011, she travelled to Ghana again with
items collected from her work place, which she donated to the Morso clinic and the Korle-Bu
Teaching Hospital. This gesture, and the reception from the health facilities, served as an
opportunity for her to do an assessment for what items to bring for future engagements.
In 2014, Eunice travelled back to Ghana with her friend and collegue, Magdalena Åsenblom
from Skärholmens Health Center. This time as voluntary workers with Volontär Resor
shipping a fully packed container of hospital items donated by Skärholmens Health Center in
Stockholm where they worked at the time. While in Ghana they worked each day of the week
at different centers, including Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, All Faith Medical Centre
near Weija, Morso Clinic in the Ashanti region, and Mums Care Orphanage in Senya Breku
(Central region). Some donations were also sent to the Presbyterian Hospital at Dormaa
Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo region in 2016, where EFHF was launched by the initiative of
Mr Kwame Peprah Boaitey.
It was after this trip that the decision was made to start an official foundation to raise funds to
help diabetes patients, nurses, mum´s care orphanage in Senya Breku, and Morso, where
donations such as clothes, shoes, toys and other items for children are sent.
By starting this fund, everyone involved with EFHF has learnt, with much delight how the
smallest things can make a great change in life for others. Don’t hesitate to join our next trip
or support our activities to aid, educate and support communities in Ghana. Thank you.

ABOUT EUNICE FENTENG
Eunice was born in Ghana and travelled to Sweden in 1992. She trained as an Agronomist,
but decided to go into the field of healthcare, due to initial challenges that she had with the
swedish language.
When doing her B.Sc Nursing, she wrote her project work or c-uppsats, as it is called in
swedish, about the different teaching methods used by nurses in patient education. After
completing her Bsc in Nursing 2002, she got her first employment at the orthopaedics ward at
Södersjukhuset where she worked for approximately 5 years before deciding to change to the
the department of endocrinology to learn more about diabetes, and come in contact with
diabetes patients.
Eunice then went on to pursue the diploma in District Nursing at Karolinska University,
alongside the courses in diabetes at Uppsala University, which she completed in 2010. She
then started working at Skärholmens Health Centre in Stockholm. Eunice combines working
at Capio Södermalms Vårdcentral i Stockholm, as a district and diabetes nurse, with
organising activities and events to raise funds for her charity organisation. She recently obtained M.Sc. in Specialist Diabetes Programme: Diabetes Care at the Uppsala University in Sweden.
